School Anxiety, School Avoidance & Difficulty Attending School
Understanding What May Be Making School Difficult for Your Child or Teen
When a child or teenager begins struggling to attend school, mornings can become difficult for everyone.
You might notice:
Sometimes anxiety is an important part of what is happening.
But difficulty attending school is not always caused by anxiety, and it should not automatically be interpreted as defiance, lack of motivation or a behavioural problem.
Learning difficulties, sensory overload, bullying, friendship difficulties, communication differences, neurodivergent needs, health concerns, family circumstances and aspects of the school environment may all contribute.
Belong Health provides person-centred, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming counselling for children aged 7+ and teenagers experiencing school-related anxiety, stress, adjustment difficulties and other emotional wellbeing concerns.
In-clinic counselling is available from our Falcon clinic near Mandurah, with telehealth counselling across Perth and Western Australia where clinically appropriate.
