Restrictive Practices & Positive Behaviour Support
Restrictive practices are an important area of Positive Behaviour Support because they can affect a person's rights, freedom, independence and quality of life.
A restrictive practice is a practice or intervention that has the effect of restricting the rights or freedom of movement of a person with disability.
Under the NDIS, five types of restrictive practices are specifically regulated:
Positive Behaviour Support focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and developing proactive, person-centred strategies that improve quality of life and reduce the need for restrictive practices wherever possible.
At Belong Health, our Behaviour Support Practitioners work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support workers, implementing providers and other professionals to understand behaviours of concern and develop individualised Positive Behaviour Support strategies.
Where regulated restrictive practices are involved, specific NDIS and Western Australian requirements apply. Federal Register of Legislation
