Our Reading, Writing & Spelling Assessment follows the same evidence-based assessment process used across our Comprehensive Learning Assessment service. Each stage has been designed to develop a detailed understanding of your child's literacy skills, learning profile and educational needs.

Step 1 - Complimentary 20-Minute Meet & Greet
Your assessment journey begins with a free 20-minute Telehealth Meet & Greet with our Registered Psychologist.
This is an opportunity to:

• Discuss your concerns.
• Explain the reading, writing or spelling difficulties you have observed.
• Ask questions about the assessment process.
• Determine whether this assessment is the most appropriate option for your child.
• Discuss any previous reports or interventions.

If another assessment pathway appears more appropriate, this will be discussed before proceeding.

Step 2 - Parent Intake Appointment
The parent intake appointment helps us understand your child's background before formal assessment begins.
During this appointment we may discuss:

How long does the assessment take?
The assessment includes a Meet & Greet, parent intake appointment, face-to-face assessment, scoring and report preparation, followed by a parent feedback appointment.

Will my child need breaks?
Yes. Where appropriate, breaks are incorporated throughout the assessment to help children remain comfortable and engaged.

Can my child have a parent with them?
This depends on your child's age, the assessment activities and clinical considerations. Your psychologist will discuss this with you before the assessment.

What should my child bring?

Should my child attend school before the assessment?

Can this assessment identify giftedness?
The primary purpose of the assessment is to understand literacy development and learning difficulties. Areas of cognitive strength may be identified where relevant, but this is not specifically a giftedness assessment.

Is this assessment available via Telehealth?
The Meet & Greet may be completed via Telehealth. However, the assessment itself is completed face-to-face to ensure standardised administration of assessment measures.

Can the assessment help if my child has already had tutoring?
Yes. Many families seek assessment after tutoring has not resulted in the progress they expected. The assessment may help explain why additional support has not been as effective as hoped.

What if another assessment is more appropriate?
If, during your Meet & Greet or assessment planning, our Registered Psychologist believes another assessment pathway would better address your concerns, this will be discussed with you before proceeding.
