For some people with disability, recognising, communicating and regulating emotions can be more difficult, particularly when communication differences, sensory needs, environmental demands, uncertainty, changes in routine or other factors are involved.
When a person becomes overwhelmed, this may sometimes be expressed through behaviours such as:

It seeks to understand what is happening for the person, what their behaviour may be communicating and what changes or supports could help them regulate, participate and experience a better quality of life.
